Ohio Republican Party Calls on President Joe Biden to Resign ‘Immediately’

Ohio Republican Party Chairman Alex Triantafilou called on President Joe Biden to resign from the presidency “immediately” amid the president’s decision to abandon his 2024 reelection campaign.

“Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race, while remaining President, is the reason the American people are so distrustful of this administration. If Joe Biden is not fit to be President in January, he is not fit to be President today,” Triantafilou said.

Triantafilou (pictured here) went on to express his confidence in GOP victories in the November 5 election; however, noted how candidates elected in November do not assume office until January 2025.

“Donald Trump and JD Vance will win this November and they will save this country. They will reverse Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ historic failures on addressing rampant inflation and the rising cost of living, the immigration crisis, and out-of-control crime,” Triantafilou said.

“But they cannot do that until January, and Americans deserve better than to have an incapable Commander-in-Chief for the next 6 months. Joe Biden should resign his Presidency immediately,” Triantafilou added.

Triantafilou’s call for Biden to resign the presidency came hours after the president officially announced the end to his 2024 reelection bid.

Biden said his decision was made in the “best interest” for the Democratic Party and the country.

Shortly after announcing his decision to abandon his reelection bid, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee.

Harris said she was “honored” to have Biden’s endorsement, adding, “My intention is to earn and win this nomination.”

Since Harris confirmed her intent to run as a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, Democratic delegates from six states – Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Louisiana – have announced that they will be backing Harris at the Democratic National Convention next month in Chicago.

While the Ohio Democratic Party has not made an official announcement regarding its delegates, the party’s chair, Elizabeth Walters, endorsed Harris’ decision to seek the Democratic nomination for president.

“Vice President Harris has proven throughout her time in public service that she has the experience to move our country forward and finish the job that the Biden-Harris administration has started. She never backs down when it comes to fighting for workers in Ohio and has been a tireless advocate for abortion rights. I can’t think of a better candidate to take on a 34-time convicted felon who is trailed by the constant threat of more legal action,” Walters said in a statement on Monday.

“That’s why I fully endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States and I’m ready to get to work,” Walters added.

Harris would need a total of 1,986 delegates to officially win the nomination.
